KITCHEN RENOVATION

Spaulding Square Historic

  • TYPE : Residential
  • LOCATION : Los Angeles, CA
  • CATEGORY : Kitchen Renovation

As part of their painstaking remodel and renovation of a charming historic district home, the team from 24 Construction & Design found this 1918 house saddled with a dreary 1960’s kitchen. The challenge in this room and all the others in the home was designing a renovation that honored the beautiful design of the historic property while creating a functional space that met all the needs of a modern kitchen.

The history is palpable in this kitchen thanks to 24’s custom crafted traditional style cabinetry, new window and door trims, and crown molding. Enhancing this warm and cozy base, marble counters — a kitchen standard since the 19th century — wrap around the sunny room, topped with subway tile in a very contemporary shade of grey stretching to the ceiling. The grey tile helps integrate the grey stainless commercial appliances into the charming kitchen, while the piece de resistance is the bay window breakfast nook, which had its ceiling height raised to make for an overall brighter, airier space.
